NOSO had a strong showing at the 2021 edition of the Bay Challenge Cup, hosted by our friends in Bay Village. Three travel teams entered the Labor Day weekend tournament, and NOSO walked away with one championship and one runner up performance when all was said and done.
The championship was earned by a combined 2010/2011 girls team, led by coaches Jackie Simcic-Becker, Vic Grindle and Aaron Witwer. The ladies came out and dominated the 2011-2012 White division, bringing an undefeated record into the final, where they defeated a tough Bay Village side 4-1. Overall they tallied 20 goals over the course of the weekend compared to just 4 goals allowed.
The 2012 boys travel team, coached by Carl Segura and Shawn Huntington, also put in a great performance going undefeated until the championship game. The boys fought hard, but fell short 3-2 against a talented Bay Village squad. Posting a final total of 20 goals for and only 5 goals against, the boys have a lot to be proud of.
A combined 2007/2008/2009 girls travel team also participated in the tournament, but despite their valiant efforts, the deck was stacked against them playing in the oldest, most experienced division, and the team was unable to advance.
